Lake Central School Corporation
Lake Central School Corporation serves Dyer, Schererville, St. John, and nearby township areas through a compact three-stage system. Six elementary schools carry kindergarten through fourth grade. Fifth grade begins one of three longer middle-school routes at Clark, Grimmer, or Kahler, where students remain through eighth grade. The middle-school assignment preserves separate community branches for four years.
All three branches meet at Lake Central High School in ninth grade. That shared destination makes the fifth-grade boundary especially important: it determines the student’s daily campus for half of the K–8 span, while the high-school destination is common across the corporation. Relocating within the Tri-Town area can alter the elementary and middle assignment; Lake Central High remains the districtwide destination.
Lake Central High shifts the focus from campus assignment to course selection. Its current guide lays out graduation requirements, advanced and dual-credit courses, and career-focused electives within one comprehensive school.
