Franklin County Community School Corporation
Franklin County Community School Corporation operates two different elementary-to-middle transitions across a 300-square-mile service area. Brookville Elementary serves preschool through fifth grade, so its students enter Franklin County Middle School in sixth grade. Laurel and Mt. Carmel retain students through sixth grade and join the middle-school cohort in seventh. All three communities meet at Franklin County High School in ninth grade. The district’s sixty-four buses travel about 2,700 miles on a typical school day, making grade span and residence central to daily transportation.
Each elementary campus offers latchkey care for enrolled students, but the later transition schedule differs by community. A Brookville sixth grader attends Franklin County Middle School while a sixth grader in Laurel or Mt. Carmel remains at the elementary building. By seventh grade, the countywide middle-school cohort is together, followed by one shared high school.
Franklin County High is an endorsed Early College school and also operates the Franklin County Achievement School for juniors and seniors. The Achievement School combines personalized academics, financial-literacy work, and employer-based learning. Students complete regular progress checks and can earn graduation credit from documented work hours. These options expand the common high-school program after the district’s two elementary routes have converged.
